Death Cab for Cutie -- Plans

Death Cab for Cutie is a well known band in the music scene straight from Bellingham, Washington. With such hits as, "Soul Meets Body" and "A Lack of Color", people could not resist the soothing voice of front man, Ben Gibbard (also in the band The Postal Service). Along with the highly notable melodies the band creates, it's hard to resist such a band. They're now on their way to gaining a new generation of fans with their release of Codes and Keys on May 31st.

Now, I'm here to talk about one of my favorite albums by this unique band. Plans, is their fifth studio album. If you haven't bought this album yet, I highly suggest you do. There isn't a single dull moment on the album. With lyrics that hit close to home, they leave a tugging feeling on your heart. You will not be disappointed.

The album starts off with Marching Bands of Manhattan. Starts off slow and really begins to pick up the pace a bit towards the middle of the song. A great choice to introduce the sound that continues throughout the whole album. Next, Soul Meets Body comes on. It's a song that has such a sweet, nice sound to it. It's a song that most people are familiar of because, if my memory serves me correctly, it was quite the popular song back in 2005. I do believe it was the song that introduced me to the band. Anyways, it leaves you with a happy feeling and you can't help but to sing along.

Summer skin is a slower song that has some a great drum track to accompany Gibbard's voice and the sweet sound of guitar and bass grooves. Different Names for the Same Thing then begins, and it's got a sort of spooky feel with the piano and Gibbard's voice as sort of "ghostly". It's a haunting song, but it keeps you hooked. Towards the middle of the song, it picks up and almost completely changes the tone of the song.

I Will Follow You into the Dark is a fan favorite. It's got an amazing little number by an acoustic guitar that accompanies Gibbard's voice almost naturally. Along with his heartfelt and sincere lyrics, it makes for a great love song. Your Heart is an Empty Room starts off strong with a cheerful melody that continues throughout the remainder of the song.

Someday You Will Be Loved is probably one of my favorite songs on this album. It slowly grows musically as Gibbard sings from the heart. Gradually leaning into the drums, then adding some guitar that accompanies the piano. A chorus that could almost forever be ingrained into your mind. With a minor breakdown that lasts for a little while, this song is definitely a hit. As with most of Death Cab's songs, Crooked Teeth doesn't fall short of the happy sort of song. It's lyrics don't necessarily match up with the happy beat, but it doesn't fall short from being a great song. In the bridge before the chorus, it slows down and then picks right back up. Adding variety and nonetheless, making for an interesting song.

What Sarah Said starts off with a strong piano track that plays throughout the entire song. It's the longest song on the album, but worth every second. Brothers on a Hotel Bed is easily another one of my favorites. Piano lasts for about a minute and then the song begins to pick up the pace. With strong vocals and a lasting beat, this is a hard song to skip over.

Stable song is the last song on this album. It's a slower song to end the album off on a light note. It's what Death Cab for Cutie is known for, slower songs with meaningful lyrics and an infectious sound.

This album is definitely one of my favorites by this band and overall by any band. I can only look forward to the music this band continues to produce and I will await the arrival of their new album with very high hopes. I do believe I, or anyone for that matter, will be disappointed. Support this band. Support this album. Support any future endeavors they take on.

I love this album it was so good... I am a little nervous about Codes and Keys I don't like the three songs that I have heard from it very much. But I have liked everything else Gibbard has done so it will probably grow on me.
